Economic Cooperation between Russia and Myanmar discussed at Eastern Economic Forum

Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the Eastern Economic Forum Organizing Committee Anton Kobyakov met with Nyo Saw, Vice-President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum to discuss issues of economic cooperation between the countries.

“Relations between Russia and Myanmar are developing at a rapid pace, building on the mutually beneficial partnership between the countries. High-level talks were held recently, where several bilateral agreements were signed. The Russia–Myanmar Business Forum was also a resounding success. An important stage in the development of economic relations was the signing of the Agreement between the governments of the countries on the promotion and protection of investments. I am confident that we will continue our cooperation moving forward, and that mutual investments and trade turnover between Russia and Myanmar will grow,” Anton Kobyakov noted.

The meeting touched upon cooperation in the fuel market and the protection of the rights of Russian investors in geological exploration. A large portion of the conversation was given over to the implementation of RC-Investments’ initiatives in Myanmar.

“Russia is a traditional partner of Myanmar in various fields. The President of Russia and the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar affirmed their commitment to the joint development of the two countries during the latter’s recent visit to Moscow. We are now moving towards the practical implementation of our intentions. I am confident that we can achieve prosperity together,” Nyo Saw said.

The 11th Eastern Economic Forum takes place on 1–4 September at the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok. The theme of this year’s Forum is ‘The Far East: Development for the Benefit of People’. The Forum has been organized by the Roscongress Foundation, with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation.
